Window on Our Past
Memories of the Log Drive
Appeared in the October 12, 2023 edition of the Lac du Bonnet Clipper.
On September 11, 100-year-old Lillian Schreyer, and her daughter Audrey, made the trip to the Winnipeg River Heritage Museum in St-Georges.
Last year, Lillian was delighted to recognize her late husband, Tony, in the photo accompanying the Lac du Bonnet Clipper’s Window on Our Past article, The Last 40 Years.
From the age of 14, Tony worked in bush camps alongside his father and brothers, hauling logs for the Pine Falls mill. In the early 1950s, Tony operated his own camps, where Lillian and their three young children joined him.
Lillian and Audrey spent hours reminiscing at the museum. Museum director, Diane Dubé, and article author, Jennifer Strassel, gave the Schreyers a photo print of Tony on the log drive, along with others uncovered in the museum’s collection.
