November 2024 – Photo Archives, Newspaper Articles & Getting Organized

December 3, 2024

Starting a non-fiction book is really just collecting ideas, jotting down potential research options and figuring out who to contact for first-hand information. I’ve done a bit of initial marketing, put up some “Share Your Bush Flying Stories” posters, and now that November is finished, I can actually see some progress on “100 Years of Aviation in Lac du Bonnet, 1926-2026”.

On November 4, I went to Winnipeg’s Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada and got to go behind the “Staff Only” door to access their archives. Thanks to volunteers Wayne, Bill & Lorraine, I was able to chose a number of photographs that will feature in the book.

Otherwise, I sent and received a number of emails to aviation families and companies with questions and information requests; looked into publishing options and prices, along with how to hire an editor and page designer; searched through the online newspaper archives for the ?? day in a row (too many to count…); and started drafting a feature article for the 2025 Lac du Bonnet Living magazine.

It feels good to finally get this book off the ground!
